Book reviews! Yay! My favorite pass time! The last book I read, The Martian by Andy Weir. For starters, yes, this does have a movie based on it with Matt Damon. I have not seen the movie, so there will be no comparisons from the book to movie.
I’m a huge fan of this book. Mark Watney, an astronaut, is one of the first groups of people to walk on Mars. Things go wrong and he ends up stranded on Mars on his lonesome. He’s an engineer and a botanist and has to figure out how to survive on a dead planet. A survival story filled with action, humor, and science. I’m not a scientist and I’m not well versed in science “lingo,” but you can tell the situations that occur are scientifically researched and as accurate as possible. Weir does a great job putting Watney in realistic and gut wrenching situations, all which Watney is adept at figuring out. Also, Watney is hilarious, laugh out loud funny. My personal favorite quote, “How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re mammals! Makes no sense.” If you are into a good survival novel with seventies references, sarcastic humor, and science, I recommend this book to you! Andy Weir has another book that came out recently, Artemis, I will be checking that out.
